Minister’s Message November 2013

 To the members and friends of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church;

            “The heavens are telling the glory of God

And the firmament proclaims his handiwork.”

                      Psalm 19:1

As we focus on ways in which our spiritual lives can be strengthened, we tend to look to worship, prayer, scripture reading and acts of service as ways to encounter God and deepen our walk with God.  And all of that is true.  Those activities are central to our growth in grace as God’s people.

The Psalm speaks of encountering God at an even more basic level, through the created which God spoke into existence.  God’s voice went out, and creation came into being.  So the heavens themselves speak to God’s glory, without even needing to use words.  Creation speaks of the reign of God, and if we are attentive to it, we get to listen in on this conversation.

Simply being aware of the creation around us, with its beauty, diversity, and fragility, can become an experience of revelation to us.  When we take the time to notice and listen, we will hear the creation sing to us of the love and wonder of God.
