Minister’s Message January 2014

To the members and friends of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church;

“The Lord is the everlasting God….  He will not grow tired or weary… Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40: 28, 31

The cities of Judah are desolate.  The Temple lies in ruins.  The homeland is far away.  To a people worn down by their Babylonian captors, a people defeated, tired and weary, the prophet Isaiah speaks these words.

There are many things in life that drag us down.  Work is a pay cheque and nothing more.  Our children may reject our ways and go down paths we feel are destructive.  Good friends, life partners, pass on and we are left in the loneliness.

As we begin this New Year together, let us write these words of Isaiah on our hearts.  And when the big challenges come, in our lives as individuals and as a congregation, we will soar like eagles.  When we need to give a little extra effort for our marriages, for our church school, for a mission project, we will run the race set before us.  In the pedestrian day-to-day washing of dishes, driving to work, making the coffee for the church coffee hour, we will walk and not faint.

Hope in the Lord.  A happy and blessed New Year to you all.

In Christ,

Rev. Bob Smith
