Minister’s Message December 2014

To the members and friends of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church;

Confession, as they say, is good for the soul.  Someone mentioned to me yesterday that they missed by December E-memo, and when I went to resend it to them, discovered that in the excitement of this wonderful season, I didn’t write one.  I hope I don’t get a lump of coal for such a terrible failure.  However, it does give me a great opportunity to give you a reminder of all the great ways you can celebrate the season of Christ‘s birth at the church.  These are all listed below.

In the interests of sending this out quickly I will borrow a thought from a more gifted writer than me, namely Robert Louis Stevenson:

O God, our loving Father, help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds and the worship of the wise men.  Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.  Deliver us from evil by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.  May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving, and forgiven, for Jesus’s sake.  Amen.

Grace and peace to you in this sacred time.

Rev. Bob Smith
