Minister’s Message July 2014

To the members and friends of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church;

“O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”

Psalm 8:1

One thing that I always look forward to in the summer is spending more time outside.  Whether the scene before us is the expansive openness of the prairie, the cool of a mature forest, the majestic grandeur of the mountains, or the crashing of ocean waves, the chance to be outside is one of renewal.  We can breathe more deeply, take time to savour the beauty, and be reminded of the fact that we are one small part of a beautiful and intricately woven creation.

The 8th Psalm is a creation hymn, and in it the wonders of creation turn the writer’s thoughts to God.  He is amazed that in the vastness of the earth and the heavens, God cares for us mortals, and has even placed us in a position of dominion over all that has been made.  It lifts up the sovereignty of God, the grace bestowed on us from such a benevolent Maker, and the responsibility we have of being good stewards of the creation which is our home.

There is a lot to take in and to wonder about on our summer hike!  I pray for you that it is a time of rest and renewal.

In Christ,

Rev. Bob Smith
