Minister’s Message March 2014

To the members and friends of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church;

“Be still and know that I am God”

Psalm 46:10

I have appreciated the gathering of the Sacred Rhythms group to explore “spiritual practices that nourish your soul and transform your life.”  Led by a gentle instructor we have entered into these exercises as a way of listening to God and drawing near to God. Through silence, prayer, conversation and reflecting we have all encountered God in new ways.

It has been a gift to be drawn back to pay attention to seek those deeper connections with God.  To “be still and know that I am God” is a wonderful reminder to us of God’s desire to connect with us, and the invitation to us to enter into a closer relationship with God.  The 46th Psalm itself acknowledges that we live in a context of uproar and turmoil, of shaking mountains and toppling kingdoms, and even then concludes with a call for us to be still, to know God, and to be reminded that God is with us.

As  we move into the penitential season of Lent this coming week, may we take time to be still with God, and seek God with our whole heart.

In Christ,

Rev. Bob Smith
