Ministries of Aboriginal Peoples

Ministry for Aboriginal Peoples matters to The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Through Presbyterians Sharing, the church supports six ministries that focus exclusively with Aboriginal Peoples in Canada. The directors and representatives of these ministries form the National Native Ministry Council and meet yearly for education, mutual support, renewal, sharing and to discuss issues of common concern.

The history of the relationship between Aboriginal People and The Presbyterian Church in Canada has been complex and often difficult. In 1994, The Presbyterian Church in Canada confessed its role in the tragic legacy of the Indian Residential Schools. The church is committed to walking with Aboriginal Peoples on a journey toward reconciliation and living out the spirit of the confession.
