Minister’s Message Sept 2013

September 2013

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them
for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” Matthew 19:14

The laughter and energy of the children are what come to mind for me as I think back to the Vacation Bible School which we hosted here at VAPC last week. Kudos to Gail and her crew of helpers, who brought together a terrific week of learning, games, crafts, singing and dancing.

The VBS was a great success and this week Gail and some of her helpers took the whole program up to Centennial Presbyterian Church as a project of VAPC Sharing. I made a few trips to the North-East to drop in on them, and more enthusiasm and excitement were the order of the day there.

These have been great events, and have ministered to the children, to whom Jesus says the kingdom of heaven belongs. Our children will be returning to school this week, and will go out with their new clothes and fresh notebooks for all that the new school year will bring to them. And we will welcome them back to a new year of fun and learning through the terrific Christian Education program which we offer at VAPC.

Jesus not only received the children, but said that we must be like them if we want to be part of his kingdom. In this season, and renewed by a time of summer relaxing, we can all return to those things that build us up as children of the kingdom, including the events and activities of the church. It is a busy and exciting time in the church with many new programs starting up. I look forward to renewing our life together as we give ourselves to being “one in Christ, reaching out to many.”

In Christ,
Rev. Bob Smith
